Statement of potentially harmful content
Natural History Museum Denmark values inclusivity and strives to welcome all visitors with respect, both in-person and online. Our purpose is positive change for people and planet. We strive to advance a scientific understanding of the natural world to help everyone make knowledge-based decisions for a sustainable future.
Our museum houses remarkable collections spanning up to 400 years and representing regions across the globe. While much progress has been made in promoting equality and social justice over these centuries, it is important to acknowledge that our collections also reflect historical biases, including, but not limited to, language or content that is misogynistic, racist, bigoted and colonialist.
When using our collections you might encounter confronting and disturbing material which does not reflect modern ethics and collection practices. We recognize that some historical descriptions, specimens and depictions may be offensive or disturbing to individuals or communities. As custodians of these collections, we are committed to sharing them unaltered, while also ensuring sensitivity and empathy in their presentation for a better understanding of our shared past.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we strive to uphold these principles.
