Danish botanist and lichenologist, 1881-1965.

Galløe studied the natural sciences and botany at the University of Copenhagen; Master of Science 1907. Professor at the upper secondary school Øster Borgerdydskole 1904-48.

Galløe's earliest works treat the biology and ecology of plants. Soon he turned his interest to the Nordic lichens that he studied diligently beside his teaching duties, and about whos ecology he wrote a number of pioneering works. He is particularly famous for his huge publication Natural History of the Danish Lichens in ten volumes (see also the biography and the bibliography in English in volume 10).

Olaf Galløe’s lichen collections, original manuscripts and correspondence, etc. are deposited in the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
